Unknown bike-born criminals shot Constable Upendra Singh at PK Roy Memorial College under Saraidhela Police Station early this morning.
He was duly admitted to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad where doctors referred him to super specialty hospital for better treatment after his critical condition.
Sources in the hospital said he was brought dead but was referred to Durgapur Mission Hospital on the instructions of a police officer to avoid a public outcry over the incident. Family members immediately took him away from the medical school hospital.
Saraidhela police station officer Jitendra Kumar said the incident took place around 8 am. Upendra Singh was riding his bike to the college to drop his son. On his return to the premises, two criminals on a bicycle shot him and fled. Upendra Singh fell on the ground and people accepted him at SNMMCH.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Vinha (Law and Order) also reached the spot and Saraidhela Police Station and started an initial investigation into the incident. “We will be able to comment only after investigation,” the DSP said.
Upender Singh had professional enmity with several people and was assaulted several times in the past. The incident has shaken the Dhanbad administration as the bullet-ridden body of stone trader Ashok Gope was found in a village under Kalubathan police station yesterday.
